What is a school counseling program?
A school counseling program reaches every student, regardless of affiliation, and strives to focus on the knowledge and attitude needed for successful academic achievement and personal/social growth. A school counselor serves as an advocate for all the students in their respective schools.
My name is Konstantina Hernandez. I have been working in the North Bergen school system for twenty eight years. I started out as a teacher at Horace Mann School. After seven years as a classroom teacher, I excitedly accepted the position of School Counselor at Franklin Elementary School!
At Franklin School I am the Anti-Bullying Specialist, I run the the Intervention and Referral Services Committee, I am the 504 Services Coordinator, the testing coordinator for the school, and I maintain an open- door counseling policy for students in need.
A Little Bit About Me:
I graduated from Seton Hall University with a Bachelors in Elementary Education/Psychology. I went on to receive my Masters in School Counseling Psychology from New Jersey City University.
My favorite part of this job is that I get to see your children walk through these doors as little people. They are tiny, innocent, and fresh. I watch them learn, grow, mature, and turn into wonderful young adults as they graduate to the next stage of life---high school! Moreover, because I too live in this community, I get so excited to see them out in the real world, as college students, interns, nurses, teachers, engineers, etc. etc.etc. !!!!
