Mr. Leo Ospina, MSW, LCSW

My name is Leo Ospina. I am the School Social Worker for the Franklin Child Study Team. My duties as a School Social Worker are as follows:

  • Assess the needs of students referred to the Child Study Team to determine if they are eligible for special education.
  • Consult with instructional staff to assist them in providing strategies for student educational, social, behavioral, and personal growth.
  • Monitor classified student's performance and coordinating related educational services and/or social work services as needed.
  • Provide therapeutic counseling to student's experiencing emotional and behavioral difficulties in the classroom.

I have a comprehensive background in social work, mental health, child welfare, and education. I received a Bachelors in Social Work from Ramapo College in Mahwah, NJ, in 2006 and a Masters in Social Work from Rutgers University in New Brunswick, NJ, in 2009.

Overall, my goal as a School Social Worker on the Child Study Team is to serve you and your child as liaison between home/school and educational resources available to you and your child. Through collaboration as a team, we can motivate, encourage, and make your child’s school year a positive and wonderful learning experience.

Please feel free to contact me at 201-974-2241 from 8:30 a.m. to 3:00 p.m.  If I am not in the office, please leave a voice message and I will return your call.  You can also contact me at my school email address lospina@northbergen.k12.nj.us to discuss questions or concerns that you may have about your child’s Individualized Education Program. I look forward to working with you. I thank you for your time, involvement, and support.
