Welcome to 7th grade English Language Arts. My name is Dana Kosmark and I have been teaching in the North Bergen School District for 24 years. During this time, I have taught 3rd and 4th grade here at Franklin School and 5th grade at Lincoln School. After I left Lincoln School, I became a Literacy Coach for a few years before taking on the role of 7th-grade English teacher here at Franklin. This will be the start of my fourth year in 7th grade and I look forward to working with your child. I feel reading is essential in life and that is why I will encourage reading every day. Each day we will start our class with Independent Reading and work towards our goal of reading One Million Words. So what is the impact of daily reading? Students become better writers, develop richer vocabulary, and increase background knowledge. Reading also improves focus, memory, empathy, and communication skills. These are some of the reasons why reading is so impactful.
I am a William Paterson University graduate with a Bachelor of Arts degree in Education and I hold a Master's Degree in Reading and Literacy from Walden University. I am married and have 3 children. My oldest daughter is a Sophomore in college, my middle daughter is a Junior in high school and my son is in 8th grade. I have a Shih Tzu, who I love, named Milo. He is almost 4 years old. I am looking forward to another year of teaching and working with your child.
Please feel free to reach out to me at any time. I can be reached at my school email address
[email protected] or call the main office at 201-974-7007. I have extra help on Wednesdays from 3:00-3:30.
